STEPHEN HYWORREN It is with a profound sense of loss that we announce the sudden passing of Steve, aged 57, the last member of his birth family, and our "anchor", into the Lords care on Sunday, April 25, 2004. Steve was born in Windsor, ON on August 7, 1946, and was predeceased by his younger brother Paul; his father Alec and finally his mother Helen. He is survived by his only child Amanda and her husband Todd; ex-wife Darlene; his uncle Peter (Joan) and several cousins. Steve enjoyed many years as a structural draftsman and spoke with pride of some of the prestigious buildings he had a small part in creating. After retiring from drafting, he freelanced doing structural evaluations on parkades, and in addition, began delivering the Winnipeg Free Press in 1995 in Island Lakes where he dependably provided excellent service until his death. Steve loved to cook and invent new recipes and recently developed a green thumb gardening where he would typically grow more than he could possibly use, just so he could offer the excess to others. He was very generous and it was hard to visit and leave without a box, bag or armful of something or other. He will be remembered for his sociability and eagerness to enter a good debate on nearly any subject. Steve did not harbour grudges or hard feelings and if you needed him you could depend on him to come to your rescue. Steve freely gave his opinions and advice to others (sometimes to their annoyance), but it was motivated by genuine interest and concern for the person. Steves family always came first and he willingly assisted in many acts of kindness and generosity. Our lives have been enriched by knowing Steve and will be diminished by losing him. A memorial service will be held to pay tribute to Steve at the Transcona Alliance Church, 751 Kildare Ave. E. at Redonda, Winnipeg, on Monday, May 3 at 2:30 p.m., Pastor Steve Janz officiating. Wereschuk Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. The family wishes to thank the Winnipeg Free Press and the Winnipeg Police Department for their support and help. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to M.A.D.D.
