GRAHAM D. McLEOD On Wednesday, April 28, 2004, Graham McLeod quietly passed away after a five-year struggle with Alzheimer disease. Predeceased by his parents, Norman and Irene McLeod; brother Allan and in-laws, George and Muriel McBain; he is survived by his wife Barbara; children, Susan (Ron), Glen (Jan) and Leslie (Hans) granddaughter Courtney; brothers, Jack (Winona), Brian (Donna) sisters-in-law, Jo McLeod and Elizabeth (Merv) Miles; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Graham will always be remembered as the much-loved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend that he was to so many throughout his life. Graham loved people and even when he was no longer able to communicate with the world around him, he still demonstrated a quiet warmth that drew people to him. Graham grew up in Charleswood and lived there until he married Barbara McBain in 1952. He always enjoyed telling stories about his "misspent" youth in what was at the time, a semi-rural community. He and Barbara met at secretarial college (MTI), and spent 52 happy years together. Graham was employed for 30 years in the financial business, first with Beneficial Finance and then Garry Finance. During this time he completed a Bachelor of Arts degree (History and Economics) at night school while maintaining his involvement in a number of community and church activities. Most importantly, he always made time to support and cheer on his children in whatever activities they attempted. At 50 Graham changed direction and enrolled in the Vancouver School of Theology, graduating with a Masters of Divinity in 1986. He was ordained in the United Church of Canada and continued his studies in Pastoral Care. He and Barbara spent the next five years in Perth, ON where he was employed as Chaplain in two Personal Care Homes. Victoria Beach always held a special place in Grahams heart. In 1993 he and Barb retired and spent ten happy years there until Graham was no longer able to function at home. He was able to golf to his hearts content, getting up at 6:00 a.m. every day for a game with his retired buddies. Graham also enjoyed a wonderful community of long-time friends at the lake, many of whom were very supportive during the latter years of Grahams illness. The family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff of River East Personal Care Home, especially the "angels" on A Wing. Their loving care and support helped to make this journey an easier one for all of us. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Grahams life will be held at St. Marys Road United Church (formerly Regents Park), 613 St. Marys Rd. on Monday, May 3, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 10-120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2; The Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent St., Winnipeg, MB R2L 1X3 or a charity of your choice.
