SISTER SOPHRONIA PAULINE SIANCHUK SSMI 1911 - 2004 Sister Sophronia, a member of the Sisters Servants of Mary Immaculate, peacefully passed away in Holy Family Nursing Home, Winnipeg, MB on April 28, 2004. Pauline (Sister Sophronia) was born in Rossburn, MB on March 13, 1911, daughter of Joseph and Amelia (Dyminuk) Sianchuk. She entered the Novitate of the Sisters Servants of Mary Immaculate in 1927, made first profession of vows on September 2, 1929, and final profession, November 3, 1935. Sister Sophronia served as a registered nurse, laboratory medical technician and in later years, worked devotedly in home care and pastoral care in the Sisters health care institutions. She provided pastoral care in other Catholic and public nursing homes and hospitals, volunteering many extra hours. In her pastoral care ministry Sister Sophronia sought out the lonely, abandoned, those most in need of a comforting word and an encouraging smile. Mindless of the weather and her own aches and pains, she faithfully went to them "out of love", as the sign on her door stated. She also encouraged and cheered the physicians and staff in their ministry of healing. All enjoyed her sense of humour and human touch and looked forward to her visits. Sister Sophronia was predeceased by her parents; her brothers, Peter, John, Bill, Paul and Michael; and her sisters, Anne and Josephine. She is survived by her sisters, Jennie, Blairmore, AB and Tillie, Wynard, SK and by numerous nieces and nephews with their families. Prayers will be held on Friday, April 30 at 7:00 p.m. at Bethany Home, 131 Aberdeen Ave. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Saturday, May 1 at 9:30 a.m. also at Bethany Home with Most Rev. Bishop David Motiuk officiating. Interment to follow in Holy Family Cemetery. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
