Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEVA PATRICIA PHILLIPS (nee HALES) It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of Eva Patricia Phillips, aged 91, of Winnipeg on Thursday, April 29, 2004. She is survived by daughter Lilian; sons, Ted (Mavis) and Al (Mary) and four grandchildren, David, Ken, Brian and Megan, all of Winnipeg. She also leaves to mourn sisters-in-law, Marjorie Hales and Betty Phillips, and many nieces and nephews. Eva was predeceased by her husband Edwin Alexis "Lex" Phillips; brother Robert; brothers-in-law, Alf and Jim (May) Phillips; and sister-in-law Rose (Henry) Brown. Eva was born February 20, 1913 in Winnipeg, and spent her early years in Winnipeg, St. Claude, Balmoral, and Stonewall. Eva completed Normal School, later teaching in Monominto, MB, where she met Lex, her future husband. She also taught at Norberry, Windsor, and Lord Roberts Schools in Winnipeg. She married Lex in 1947, settled for a time in Norwood, later moving with her family to Belleville, ON, where they lived for two years. Shortly after returning to Winnipeg, Eva opened a kindergarten in the family home in St. James, and then taught grade two at Strathmillan School, until her retirement in 1978. As a dedicated and caring teacher, Eva always strived to give her students a strong grounding for their success later in life. During her retirement years, Eva took several trips overseas and in Canada and the United States with Lex and Lilian. Funeral service will take place on Wednesday, May 5 at 11:00 a.m. in the Leatherdale Gardiner Funeral Chapel, 1858 Portage Ave. Interment to follow in Brookside Cemetery. Thanks to all the staff at Middlechurch Home for all of their care and support for the past six years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Alzheimers Society of Manitoba Inc., 120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2 or a charity of your choice.
