MICHAEL KOWALYK Peacefully on Saturday, May 1, 2004 at Kelowna, BC with family at his side, Michael Kowalyk passed away at 84 years of age. Michael was predeceased by his wife of 55 years Rozalia, his parents and his sisters, Parania and Katerina. Michael will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by daughters, Mary (Rolli) Cacchioni of Kelowna, BC, Anna (Leo) Gusztak of Lloydminster, AB; son Vlad (Janice) of Winnipeg; grandchildren, Angela (Chris) Block, Michael, David and Gabriel Cacchioni, Roman, Christina, Andrew, Stefan, Ivan and Katherine Gusztak, Nicholas and Alexandra Kowalyk; great-grandson Jackson Block; sister Anastasia in Ukraine and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Michael was born in Stary Lubliniec, Ukraine on September 3, 1919. He met and married his wife Rozalia in Germany in 1945 and came to Canada with their daughter Mary, settling in Transcona in 1951. In 1984, Michael retired from CN Transcona Shops. Michael moved to Kelowna, BC in 2002 where he spent his remaining years. Dad loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and close friends. He was an active member of St. Michaels Parish and the Brotherhood. Playing the violin, singing in the Dumka and other Ukrainian choirs and being the cantor at St. Michaels Ukrainian Catholic Church were a great source of pride and joy for him. His love of carpentry also provided family and friends with meticulously crafted keepsakes. Prayers will be sung 7:00 p.m., Thursday, May 6 at St. Michaels Ukrainian Church, 400 Day St. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 7 at the church with Fr. Michael Krochak officiating. Interment to follow in Transcona Cemetery.
