SIGRIDUR (SIGGA) SOFFIA WASHBURN (nee BERGMAN) Peacefully, on Saturday, May 1, 2004 at the Gimli Betel Home, Sigga Washburn, aged 89 years of Gimli. Sigga was born at the family farm in Geysir, MB on August 8, 1914 and spent her early years there. In 1938 she moved to Gimli with her parents and worked for a period of time at the Gimli Air Base and the Betel Home. When her parents health failed she remained at home to care for them. In 1974 she married Art Washburn and together they spent some time travelling to Iceland and across Canada. She was predeceased by her sister in infancy; her parents, Gudmunder and Gudrun Bergman; her brothers, Gunnlauger (Fred) and wife Frances, Gudjon (John) and wife Oddney and Soffonias (Fei) and wife Fridrikka; and most recently by her husband of 30 years, Art Washburn. Sigga is survived by Arts children, Karen, Janet and Greg Washburn and her numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 8 at 10:00 a.m. at the Gimli Lutheran Church with Pastor George Johnson officiating. A luncheon will follow in the church basement. Interment to follow the lunch in the Chapel Lawn Cemetery, Winnipeg at 2:00 p.m. Gilbart Funeral Home, Gimli in care of arrangements.
