HELEN DERKSEN (JANZ-KLIEWER) 1912 - 2004 On May 1, 2004, Helen peacefully went to be with the Lord. Left to mourn her passing are her sons, Murray Janz (Karen) and Ryan Janz (Barbara) son-in-law John Henry Friesen (Katie) grandchildren, great-grandchildren, her complete Derksen family, and her Kliewer and Janz brothers, sisters and their families. Helens daughter Lois Friesen (Janz) predeceased her on September 19, 1991. Helen was born January 23, 1912 on a farm outside St. Pierre, MB. At the age of 21 she gave her life to Christ, was later baptized and in 1936, joined the E.M.B. Church. On July 14, 1935 she married Peter B. Janz who died on February 12, 1959 leaving her to support three children through her drapery business which she ran for 35 years. On July 24, 1971, she married Peter W. Derksen who died on October 8, 1995. Helen was very adventurous and had a great love for travel. She visited many places such as Africa, Europe, Israel and the Caribbean. Funeral service will be celebrated May 6 at the Portage Avenue Mennonite Brethren Church, 1420 Portage Ave. at 10:30 a.m. with viewing one-half hour prior to service. Interment will follow at 2:00 p.m. in Steinbach Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Portage Avenue Mennonite Brethren Church.
