KATIE LACHUTA (nee PROKOP) Peacefully, on Monday, May 3, 2004 Katie passed away at the Gimli Community Health Centre, aged 84 years, of Winnipeg Beach, our beloved mother, baba and great-baba. Katie was born on May 13, 1919 in Rembrandt, MB. She married Mike Lachuta on February 8, 1939 and they moved to Winnipeg Beach in the 1950s with their children, where she was a wonderful homemaker. She was predeceased by her husband Mike; son Alex Lachuta; son-in-law Peter Sowa; daughter-in-law Hilda Lachuta; grandson Ryan Taraschuk and granddaughter Patricia Sowa. Katie leaves to cherish her memory her sons, Bill (Anna), Bernard, Lawrence (Charlene), Louie (Laurel), Franklin and Paul; daughters, Mary (John) Kostuik, Adeline Sowa, Annie (Billy) Boitson, Jean (Ron) Taraschuk, Julia (John) Ewonchuk, Barbara (Larry) Peech, Bernice (Eugene) Zelenitsky and Beata (Murray) Shaw; her sisters, Polly Zubritzky and Nellie Drozda; 36 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, friends and her faithful dog Sandy. Prayers will be held on Wednesday, May 5 (tonight) at 7:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel in Gimli with Deacon Ray Sutton officiating. Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, May 6 at 10:00 a.m. in the Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, Winnipeg Beach with Fr. Peter Chorney officiating. Interment will follow in the Winnipeg Beach Community Cemetery beside her husband Mike. Her pallbearers will be Roger Lachuta, Bradley Ewonchuk, Justin Taraschuk, Geraldine Sowa, Vanessa Zelenitsky and Shannon Lachuta. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. R. C. Patel, the hospital nursing staff and homecare for their excellent care and concern for Katie. In lieu of flowers, donations in Katies name can be made to the Winnipeg Beach Seniors Care through Gateway Foundation, Box 172, Winnipeg Beach, MB, R0C 3G0. Vichnaya Pamyat Gilbart Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
