Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMONICA MANOAKEESICK January 21, 1946 - April 29, 2004 It is with great sadness we report the passing of Monica Manoakeesick on April 29, 2004. Monica was predeceased by her parents George Wood and Lena Mason and her brother Louis Wood. She is survived by her husband John Louis Manoakeesick; children, William Thomas (Rose), Georgette McDougall (Arnold), Darlene and George (Olivia) grandchildren, Marina, Marissa and Austin; sisters, Delia Flett, Sally Mason, Pauline Wood Steiman (Rodney), Lucy Wood, Rita Walker (Ricky), Annette Harper, Rubina Little and Jane Ross; brothers, Roy Mason (Janice) and Darrell Mason; sister-in-law Elizabeth Wood, plus many nieces and nephews. Monica was educated in Northern Manitoba. She worked for First Nations Communities in the north, for Aboriginal Womens Abuse Centre in Thompson and for Child and Family Services in St. Theresa Point. Monica volunteered for pastoral care and youth programs where she applied her great insight to help and comfort others. We would like to thank the staff of the Dialysis Unit for the excellent care Monica received. We would also like to thank the doctors and nurses of the emergency unit and M.I.C.U. at Health Sciences Centre for their excellent care and compassion. The family also thanks Handi-Transportation for their care. We will miss Monicas sense of humour and great passion for life. Monica courageously accepted her illness and pain quietly; never complained and always offered a greeting and a smile. Monica was our hero; she is lovingly remembered and remains in our hearts. Viewing and prayers were held at the Aboriginal Funeral Home on April 29. Monica was returned to St. Theresa Point, MB where wake services were held on April 30. Her funeral was on Saturday, May 1 at the St. Theresa Point Roman Catholic Church.
