RODERICK ALEXANDER NOBESS After a long and courageous battle, Rod, our dear father and grandfather, peacefully passed away on Saturday, May 1, 2004 with his family by his side. Rod was born in Winnipeg on August 21, 1934. He spent his early years in St. Laurent, MB, where he attended school until 1953 when he joined the Army. He was stationed in Germany, where he attained recognition in a world rifle shooting competition. He was also a band drummer and paratrooper. As a young man he loved hunting with his dogs that he had trained. Rod was a certified painter, who worked with the City of Winnipeg until he suffered a stroke in 1993 that disabled him. He resided at Heritage Lodge until his final days. Rod was predeceased by his grandparents David and Rose Nobess, who raised him after losing his mother Pearl in 1939. He lost his father Dick in 1967; brother Fernand in 1975 and sisters, Pearl and Roslyn in 2002. He is survived by his loving children, Rhonda (Orville), Debbie (Jeff), Randy, Roddy (Joanne), David and Dave; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Rhoda and Rita (Herman) brothers, Ron (Jean), Emile (Diana), and Laurence (Harriet). Funeral Service will be held on Friday, May 7 at 11:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. with Fr. Robert Bernardin, OMI officiating. Interment to follow in the Military Section of Brookside Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Orval, Byron, Wayne Nobess, Shane Byron, Rodrick Nobess III, Tyler Nobess, and David Nobess. Honorary Pallbearer Allan Kirton. We would like to thank the staff at Heritage Lodge and the Grace Hospital. If so desired, donations may be made in Rods memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
