JOHN (JACK) ORR Peacefully on May 2, 2004 Jack passed away at the Riverview Health Centre with his loving and devoted wife Orla holding his hand. This, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimers disease. He leaves to mourn his wife Orla; children, Terrie (Laurie Stein), Janice (Darcy Reimer), Jack (Carol), Susan (Harold Slegers) and Jim (Trudie) his grandchildren, Jennifer (Trevor Giesbrecht), Michelle (Brian Derksen), Mark, Peter, David, Sarah, Brendan and Lauren; also great-grandchild Matthew. His brothers, Ted and Gerry; and sisters, Noala Mots, Darlene (Dick Scott) and Lynne Kube; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his infant brother Bobby and his parents, Jim and Mae Orr. Jack was born in Swift Current, SK on August 5, 1933. His family moved to Winnipeg when he was seven and they lived on Arnold Avenue. He attended Riverview, Lord Roberts and Kelvin Schools. Jack married his childhood sweetheart, Orla (Taylor) on February 27, 1953. Jack started working for Canadian Pacific Railway at Weston Shops in 1951 as a Carman apprentice and became a foreman in 1964. He transferred to Thunder Bay in 1981 and enjoyed the diversity of the job. He retired out of Thunder Bay in 1988. Jack was a very hard worker. When he and Orla were first married and the family kept growing he always had extra jobs. He used his carpentry skills to build rec rooms, garages, and additions to many houses in Fort Garry and Fort Rouge area. His wooden lawn chairs were everywhere. His happiest times were spent at the cottage at Ingolf, ON. Jack started going to Ingolf as a teenager and his dream of having his own place came true when he and his brothers bought their own property. Years of hard work and many beers were enjoyed there with family and friends. After retirement, Jack and Orla moved there permanently. Every day he spent there was special to him. He loved sitting on the patio watching the sun go down and the seasons change. They lived at Ingolf until the Alzheimers made living there too difficult. Jack spent the last seven years at Riverview Health Centre on AB2. The care he received was incredible, the staffs concern for him and all the patients was way above the call of duty. Jacks family could not thank the staff enough for making his days there as comfortable and pleasant as possible. Special thanks also to Jackie Williams. The funeral will be held at St. Albans Church on 486 Rathgar Ave. at Osborne Street, on Saturday, May 8 at 10:30 a.m. followed by a reception in the lower hall.
