Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryTARAS JOHN CHORNOBOY May 5, 1926 - May 5, 2004 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Taras Chornoboy, peacefully in the evening of May 5, 2004 at the St. Boniface Hospital. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a dear friend to many. He was 78 years of age. Taras will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 57 years, Joan; his children, Larry (Eleanor), Shirley Fourneaux (George), and Christine (Joe) his grandchildren, Lisa (Miles), Marc (Kristine) also his great-grandchildren, Karissa and Sarah. Taras will be sadly missed by his sisters, Helen Block and Emily Chernecki (Peter) his sisters-in-law, friends, and many nieces and nephews. Taras was predeceased by his father Andrew; his mother Lena and his brothers, Ted, Bill, Mike, Orest, Maurice and Eddie. Taras was born in Sarto, MB on May 5, 1926. He met his wife Joan in Sarto and married her in Winnipeg on August 2, 1946. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Midland, ON. They lived in Midland for 5 years. During that time, Taras was employed by Frosted Food Lockers. They moved back to Winnipeg in 1951. Taras started working on transit with Winnipeg Electric on May 5, 1952. He worked 34 years with transit. He started working with street cars, then trolley buses, on to gas, and then with diesel. He retired from transit on May 2, 1986 at the age of 60 years. His badge number was #3, and the last bus he drove, was #960. Taras received many commendations for his superior service during his tenure with Winnipeg Transit. After his retirement, Taras spent his leisure time at the Falcon Lake cottage with his family. He also spent many fishing weekends with his friends at the Lunkers Lodge in Malichi. He took up carpentry, building charming bird houses, bird feeders, and wine racks to hold the bottles of his other hobby - wine making. Taras was a man with dignity and integrity. Above all, he cherished his wife and family. Taras will be remembered by so many whose lives he touched with his gentle warmth and kindness. Our heartfelt thanks to all the incredible staff in the ICU at the St. Boniface Hospital. A special thank-you to Dr. John Peterson, family physician and friend. You always knew what was best for Taras. Prayers will be held on Sunday, May 9 at 7:00 p.m. in Green Acres Funeral Chapel, Hwy. #1 E. at Navin Rd. Funeral service will take place on Monday, May 10 at 11:00 a.m. also in the chapel. Interment will follow in Green Acres Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Bill Semonick, Bill Miller, Ken Miller, Murray Chornoboy, Gary Chornoboy and Ken Romanuik.
