THOMAS SYTNYK Thomas (Tom) Sytnyk of Oakburn, MB passed away at the Birch Lodge Personal Care Home in Hamiota, MB, on Wednesday, May 5, 2004 at the age of 86 years. Tom and his twin brother Joe were born at home, in the L.G.D. of Park, on April 11, 1918 to Hnat and Mary (Hachkowski) Sytnyk. He attended Rogers School until grade five when he quit to help on the farm. Tom farmed for 60 years at home with his dad. Following his dads death, he moved to the M.J. Shwaluk farm where he lived the rest of his life. The farm was his greatest joy. He enjoyed seeding in the spring and harvest in the fall. He was active in the farm until his death. He enjoyed the company of friends and sharing a drink with them. He also enjoyed visits from all of his nieces and nephews. Tom was a member of the Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Church in Oakburn. Tom was predeceased by his sister Lena in 1923, brother Mike in 1977, father Hnat in 1978, mother Mary in 1981 and brother-in-law Matt Hrysak in 1991. Tom is survived by brothers, Peter (Nellie) Sytnyk of Oakburn, twin brother Joe (Sophie) Sytnyk of Shoal Lake, Alex (Pat) Sytnyk of Los Angeles, CA; sisters, Phyllis (Tony) Tutkaluk of Shoal Lake, Eva Hrysak of Minnedosa and sister-in-law Margaret Verbowski of Rossburn. He is also remembered by many nieces and nephews. The funeral service was held on Monday, May 10 at 10:00 a.m. from the Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Church, Oakburn with interment following in the parish cemetery. Prayers were said from the church Sunday evening at 7:30 p.m. Rev. George Malik officiated. Pallbearers were nephews, Delmar Hrysak, Perry Sytnyk, Syzon Sytnyk, Larry Sytnyk, Brian Sytnyk and Glen Sytnyk. Honorary pallbearers were nieces, Joan Shwaluk, Barb Whitherspoon, Donna Usick, Julie Tutkaluk, Linda Wasylyshen, Theresa Fedwin and Lily Logan. Crossbearer and alter server was great-nephew Michael Sytnyk. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Raes Funeral Service of Shoal Lake and Erickson were in care of arrangements.
