KATHERINE REGINA COTTINGHAM (nee HOVORKA) Happy Mothers Day Mom Surrounded by love from both near and far, our wonderful mother passed into the arms of God on Thursday May 6 at Golden West Centennial Lodge. Mom was born July 13th, 1913 in Kamsack, Saskatchewan, one of eight children to Regina and Francis Hovorka. Having lost their father early in life, this closely knit family sustained each other throughout the years with their love of music and strength of character. Mom attained her practical nursing certificate in Saskatoon and ministered to many people throughout her life. She accompanied our Dad during his adventures in the Canadian North, and when his health failed, applied her skills to care for the elderly for whom she had great compassion. Her home at ""923"" was alive with love and life and offered a safe haven to anyone in need. The lights were always on and a celebration just around the corner. There werent many problems that couldnt be solved over a cup of tea and a slice of banana bread! She was predeceased by her beloved husband Edward in 1967, her sister Loretta and brothers Francis, Thomas, and Joseph. She will be forever missed by her children Jacqueline Cottingham of Thunder Bay, Ontario, Regina Porth (Lorne) of Winnipeg, Ted Cottingham (Bernice) of Thunder Bay, Ontario, and Katherine McKay (Fred) of Winnipeg. She is survived by her sister Julia Gratton (Leo) of Chilliwack, British Columbia, Dan Hovorka (Laura) of Westbank, British Columbia, and Tunney Hovorka (Virginia) of Winnipeg. Her devoted grandchildren Jeremy Bowery (Maxine) of Winnipeg; Laural Porth-Jones (Richard) of Redmond, Washington; Gregory Porth (Alexandra) of Winnipeg; Brock Porth (Lysa) of Winnipeg; Jacqueline Cottingham (Keith) of Toronto; Teddy Cottingham (Lisa) of Vancouver, British Columbia; Jamey McKay (Clint) of Winnipeg; Regina McKay of Saskatoon; and Freddy McKay of Winnipeg will miss her generosity of spirit and unconditional love and support. Grandmas zeal for fun and wilderness adventure at our beloved Turtle Lake Ontario has been woven into the fabric of each of their lives. We would like to express our gratitude to the many caregivers who have journeyed with us these past three years. Yours is truly a vocation of love. Prayers will be said Monday, May 10 at 7:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home 4000 Portage ave. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, May 11 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Ignatius Church, corner of Corydon Avenue and Stafford Street with Father Johnson, S.J. as celebrant. "Eternal Rest Grant Unto Her O Lord and let Perpetual Light Shine Upon Her, May she rest in peace AMEN" Flowers gratefully declined. If friends wish, donations in her memory may be made to Golden West Centennial Lodge, 811 School Road, Winnipeg, MB R2Y 0S8 or to St. Marys Academy Bursary Fund, 550 Wellington Crescent, Winnipeg, MB R3M 0C1.
