Date of Passing: May 06, 2004
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRICHARD ESSLSINGER (DICK) Peacefully on May 6, 2004, at the age of 76 years, Richard passed away in his sleep at the Hunter Memorial Hospital in Teulon following a lengthy illness. Richard was predeceased by his loving wife of 37 years, Gertrude, in 1986. Richard will be lovingly remembered by his wife Heather and her family and his children Gary (Pat) Janet Burtt (Jim), and Brad (Ada). He also leaves to mourn many grandchildren, Keri, Chris, Cassandra, Megan, Linda, Kimberley, Stephanie, Matthew, Emily and one great-grandchild Devon. Also brothers Ron (Lynda), John (Shirley) and Larry as well as many friends, former colleagues and Masonic lodge brothers. Richard worked most of his life in the decorating trades and spent the last 15 years of his working life as a teacher at Red River College. There he willingly passed on his wealth of knowledge that had been gathered over his working life. After his retirement Richard spent his leisure time doing the things he enjoyed most, spending summers at the lake. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, raising and showing long-haired Dachshunds and woodworking. A few short years after his retirement he found another joy in life; spending winters in Florida. There Richard made many new friendships that lasted his entire lifetime. After his health declined and he could no longer travel he still spoke fondly of those winters and kept in contact with many of those who called him a friend. During quiet times Richard enjoyed playing his favourite game, Skip Bo, with both family and friends. Richard was a member of Acacia Lodge, No. 111 for over 25 years where he served as Grandmaster in 1985. He was very active in the lodge up until the time that his health began to fail. This was an activity that he very much missed. The family would like to thank the staff of Hunter Memorial Hospital for their care and kindness. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Manitoba Lung Association. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 11 at the Masonic Memorial Temple, 420 Corydon Ave. Masonic Regalia may be worn. Following the service a reception will be held. A private family interment will follow at a later time. NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200
