RICHARD MICHAEL ZUBRYCKI January 31, 1944 - May 5, 2004 Passed peacefully on the morning of Wednesday, May 5, 2004. He was predeceased by his father Phil. He is survived by his loving wife Shirley (nee) Kowalker, his proud children Kathy, Rick, and Bobby, his mother Stella (nee) Lesiuk and his brother Philip. He will also be deeply missed by Marta, Mary, Diane, and so many colleagues and friends whose lives touched his. Richard or "Big D" was a kind and generous man who put his family above all else. He loved to spend time with his wife "The Lady" and his children. Together we travelled the world, enjoyed eating, swimming in the family pool and going to our lake with the dogs Buffy, Teddy and Sluggy. We laughed a lot because he was a funny funny man who loved living each and every day the way he thought it was meant to be lived. We all had him for sixty years and now someone else will get to have him. Well see you again Richard, and well love and remember you until then. Richard attended Lord Selkirk School, Elmwood High School, The University of Manitoba, The University of Winnipeg, and received his M.S.W. from The University of Toronto. He began his career as a probation officer in Winnipeg in 1965. In 1973 he went to work at Stony Mountain Penitentiary and then transferred to Ottawa. In 1994 he was appointed to the position of Director General, Corrections Directorate, Government of Canada. He was teaching at Carleton University this year, a dream finally fulfilled. His colleagues will remember him as a tireless mentor and a loyal friend, someone who did the right thing for the right reasons. They will cherish his dedication and his sense of humour above all else. Good-bye, son, husband, father, brother and friend; we will all miss you. Cremation and a memorial service will take place in Ottawa, Ontario. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to: Foster Parents Plan: (Charity) 95 St. Clair Ave. West, Suite 1001, Toronto, ON M4V 3B5
