Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELSIE GOODBAND BROOKING (nee SIMPSON) 1912 - 2004 It is with great sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Elsie Goodband Brooking (nee Simpson) of Shoal Lake, MB and formerly of Treherne, MB on Friday, May 7, 2004 at the Morley House Personal Care Home, Shoal Lake, MB at the age of 92 years, beloved wife of the late Harold Brooking. Elsie was born on January 27, 1912 to Charlie and Florence Simpson in Winnipeg, MB. In 1913 Elsie and her parents moved to Eriksdale, MB, where they homesteaded until 1926, when they moved to a farm at Treherne. Elsie began her education at Eastland School near Eriksdale and completed it at Matchettville School, north of Treherne. In 1938 she married Harold Brooking and they spent most of their married life in the Treherne area, raising a family of two. Elsie was a dedicated community worker, being a faithful member of the United Church, UCW and the church choir. Other community affiliations included: Charter member of the Treherne Order of Eastern Star, Legion Auxiliary, Sunday School teacher and superintendent and 4-H leader. Other interests included gardening, nature, oil painting and sketching, sewing, curling and golfing. Elsie took great pride in her grandchildren and their accomplishments. Elsie leaves to mourn her passing and to cherish her loving memory, daughter, Barbara (Ray) Pettinger of Shoal Lake; son, Barrie (Dorothy) Brooking of Minnedosa; grandchildren, Cary (Kathy) Pettinger, Michelle (Craig) Pearson, Tannis Pettinger (Todd Jowett), Brett (Nicole) Brooking, Chad Brooking (Mandy Van Woensel) great-grandchildren, Khalicia, Carlyle and Jessica Pettinger, Destiny and Jaxx Jowett, Braeden and Carter Brooking, Emily and Eden Pearson. She is also survived by sister, Ivy LaRoque of Winnipeg, MB and brother-in-law, Les Brooking of Kelowna, BC. Elsie was predeceased by her husband, Harold Brooking in 1991; father, Charlie Simpson in 1952; mother, Florence Simpson in 1963 and brother Franklin Simpson in 2003. Funeral service was conducted from the Treherne United Church, Treherne, MB on Thursday, May 13 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Jim Haupt officiating. Pallbearers were Cary Pettinger, Tannis Pettinger, Michelle Pearson, Rick Brooking, Glenn Matchett and Gary Robinson. Interment followed in Bethel Cemetery, Treherne, MB. As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Elsies memory to the Treherne United Church Memorial Fund, Treherne, MB, R0G 2V0 or to a charity of ones choice.
