It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Winnie Lees, at the Gladstone Hospital on May 8, 2004. Winnie was born on a farm S.E. of Neepawa, MB, in the R.M. of Langford on October 22, 1909. She was the second child of seven children born to George and Mary Davidson. Winnie was predeceased by her husband Laurence; twin sons George (1931) and William (2003), son Laurence (1993) four step-children, Laurence, Jack, Bert, and Amelia; grandchildren, Ronald Revel and Thomas Lees; her parents; sister Beth Farrell; brothers, Roy and William; sons-in-law John Gabor and Don Brown; daughters-in-law, Muriel Lees and Tez Lees; and brothers-in-law, Clarence Bailey, Bob McLaughlin, and Howard Farrell. Winnie enjoyed people and enjoyed helping people. She spent many years raising her family and then went on to help others as a caregiver. She liked all the places in which she lived - Neepawa, the Osprey District (1936-1944), Arden (1944-1965), and Gladstone (1965-2004). Those left to mourn her passing are: her children, Mary (Ted Revel) of Teulon, MB, Thomas (Rena) of Marathon, ON, Dorothy (Robert Wilson) of Gladstone, MB, Ruth (Harvey Seddon) of Calgary, AB, Jean Brown of Delta, BC, Roy (Lois) of Gladstone, MB, Ellen (Sam Leitch) of Plumas, MB; daughters-in-law, Betty Lees of Winnipeg, MB, and Darlene Lees of Teulon, MB; 25 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; brother Alexander Davidson (Phyllis) of Carberry, MB; sisters, Nina Bailey of Winnipeg, MB, and Gladys McLaughlin of Neepawa, MB; nieces and nephews; her dear friends Nellie Armstrong, Lil McCaskill, Marge and Bruce Francis; and Laura Frechette whose kind and gentle ways brought comfort to Winnie in her final days. Her family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to: Dr. Berman-Wong and the physicians and staff at the Gladstone Hospital; the staff at Third Crossing Manor; Home Care; Palliative Care; Rev. James Bardsley; and Clarkes Funeral Home. Special thanks to all the caregivers that went beyond the call of duty. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 12 in the All Saints Anglican Church, Gladstone, MB at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. James Bardsley officiating. Interment will follow in the Gladstone Cemetery. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the All Saints Anglican Church, Seven Regions Palliative Care, or to a charity of ones choice.
