IAN W. FRASER P.ENG. (RET.) Peacefully at Riverview Health Centre with his family by his side on May 11, 2004. Ian was predeceased by his parents, Isabel in 1954, Murdoch in 1964; a sister and infant brother in 1922; and his wife Betty in 2004. Ian is survived by sons, John in Winnipeg and Tom with wife Samira in Victoria, BC; brother Glen with wife Florence and family in Winnipeg; brothers-in-law, Jack with wife Alice in Penticton BC, Roy in Brantford ON, and sister-in-law, Kathy in Brandon MB. Ian was born May 14, 1918 in Winnipeg. He spent his early years in the village of Glenella MB. He received his high school education in Winnipeg, and Eden MB during the Great Depression, which had a lasting influence on his life. Ian worked at Parkhill Bedding Factory for four years prior to joining the Royal Canadian Signals Corps in 1942. After the war he attended the University of Manitoba, graduating in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. Upon graduation he accepted employment with the City of Winnipeg Engineering Department, retiring in 1983 as District Engineer of District 1. During his university days and the early years of his professional work, he was active in the Engineering Institute of Canada, and a member of the Association of Professional Engineers from 1952 until 2000. During the 1950s Ian was a member of the Centennial 313 Toastmasters Club. From his father, he inherited a deep love and appreciation of the poetry of Robert Burns. Ian and Betty were married in Brantford, ON in 1950 and moved to Winnipeg where they purchased a house and raised a family during 53 years of marriage. Ian exhibited a commitment and dedication to his family that will be forever cherished by them. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the palliative physicians, nurses, and staff at the Riverview Health Centre Palliative Care Wing 3 East unit for their competent and compassionate care during the last weeks of his life. A memorial service will be held at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Donald Street and Graham Avenue at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 14, 2004. NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200
