BARBARA JEAN POLSON (nee SOUTH) Peacefully on Tuesday, May 11, 2004 at the Grace General Hospital, at the age of 81 years. She is survived by her three loving children, Catherine Motriuk and her husband Bill of Winnipeg, Barbara Teatro of Portland, OR, Robert and his wife Marlene of Winnipeg; and her grandchildren, Bill and Lindsay Motriuk, Jennifer, Stephanie and Kimberly Teatro, and Trevor and Jason Polson. She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Mardie Newton, Bill Marshall, Bruce Marshall, Dorie Billich and their families. She was predeceased by her husband Dr. Robert Polson, in 1990; her parents, Nelson and Marion South; and her sister Eleanor Marshall. Barbara was a lifelong resident of Winnipeg. She attended Riverbend School (Balmoral Hall) where she made many cherished, lasting friendships. After completing high school she went on to graduate from the Winnipeg General Hospital as a Registered Nurse in 1945. She worked as a nurse in the Childrens Hospital, Deer Lodge Hospital, T. Eaton Company, as well as two years with Trans Canada Airlines as a stewardess prior to her marriage in 1951. Barbara was an active member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority, the Junior League of Winnipeg, and the Winnipeg Winter Club while she raised her three children. Once her children were grown, she fulfilled her dream of returning to school, graduating in 1983 with her Bachelor of Arts (Anthropology) Degree from the University of Winnipeg, the proud recipient of several undergraduate scholarships. Barbara was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and aunt. We will miss her counsel, love and great stories of summer life at the family cottage at Falcon Lake. The family wishes to express their thanks to the staff and new found friends at the Westhaven Retirement Residence, to all her home care workers, and the staff of the Grace General Hospital for making her final days so comfortable. A special thanks to Sandy, her morning "sunshine" and Cecilia, her evening "angel". In keeping with Barbaras wishes, a private family service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations in Barbaras memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation Of Manitoba, Suite 200, 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6.
