SYLVIA ELAINE NIELSON November 11, 1949 - May 10, 2004 Suddenly on May 10 Sylvia Elaine Nielson passed away due to heart failure. She leaves to mourn her siblings, Karen Thorlakson, Paul (Brenda) Nielson, Norma (Wayne) Lucas; and her nieces and nephews, Kirsten (Derek, Katelyn, Justin), Cheryl (Scott), Eric, Jeremy, Mia, Ian and Adrienne. Family and friends will fondly remember her kind and gentle spirit and her love and dedication to animals. She was very active as a volunteer for Quagga Stray Cat Rescue and the Winnipeg Humane Society. She especially enjoyed the pet visits to seniors and was involved in the fight for animal rights. Her pet cats were very special to her. Sylvia was a talented writer and was a former president of Toastmistresses. Her love of nature was enriched by African safaris and excursions to Churchill. Some of her many interests included bird watching, photography, and more recently scrapbooking. Sylvia graduated in 1975 with a BA in Anthropology from University of Winnipeg. She worked for 25 years in the offices at Stony Mountain Penitentiary and was recently retired. She was predeceased by her mother Augusta in 1995 and her father Fred in 2003. A memorial service will be held May 15 4:30 p.m. at First Lutheran Church, 580 Victor St. Sylvias wishes would be for any donations to be made in her memory to Quagga Stray Cat Rescue or the Winnipeg Humane Society.
