MARY HOSFIELD Mary died peacefully on Wednesday, May 12 at Grace Hospital, with her children and grandchildren at her side. She was born in Brandon, MB and grew up in the north end of Winnipeg, graduating from St. Johns High School. She was predeceased by her husband Jim in 1987; beloved daughter Carole in 1994; as well as her four brothers and their wives, and many dear friends. Mary is survived by daughters, Lorraine (Winnipeg), Joan (Regina), son Bob (Dorrie) of Winnipeg and her beloved grandchildren, David (Elsa) of San Diego, Christopher (Toronto), Scott (Edmonton), Sheryl (Jeff) and Raelynn (Regina), Joshua, Colin and Alexander (Calgary), as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was a member of Harrow United Church for 50 years. Mary and Jim volunteered for Meals on Wheels for over 30 years. She also volunteered for Special Olympics and canvassed for CancerCare and the Heart Fund, and knit hundreds of pairs of mitts for Christmas Cheer. She kept sharp playing bridge with many good friends and enjoyed crossword puzzles. Mary was an avid reader. In her youth she was an accomplished gymnast and speedskater, and later enjoyed bowling, swimming and long walks. Mom was a sweet, kind and caring individual. She had a mischievous side, and enjoyed many good times with her friends and family. Her children were very proud of her fierce independence, which she maintained to the very end. Mary and Jim travelled extensively throughout North America, and enjoyed several trips to Portugal after Jims retirement. Mary particularly enjoyed visiting Scotland and England with her brother Tom, his wife Nancy and friend Amelia, and, her trip to Mexico for her granddaughter Sheryls wedding. Flowers are gratefully declined at Marys request. Rather, for those who wish, Mary suggested they grow an African Violet (her favourite) in memory of friendship and good times shared. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, May 15 at 11:00 a.m. at Harrow United Church, 955 Mulvey Avenue, Winnipeg.
