FRED KOTELKO It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Fred Kotelko, on Wednesday, May 12, 2004 at the Grace Hospital at the age of 88 years. Left to cherish his memory, his beloved wife of 64 years, Anna; his sons, Bud and Myron (Alice) his daughters, Stephanie Hore, Lorraine (Dave) Minaker, Myra (Gordon) Langrell, as well as 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, Nick and Dorothy Kotelko; sisters, Marion Shipowich and Alice Charko and infant son Terry Kotelko. Fred was born in Hafford, SK on February 23, 1916 and later moved to Great Deer, SK. He spent most of his life farming but often spoke of spending many enjoyable years in his youth as a baseball pitcher and guitar player in a Ukrainian band. He married Anna in 1939 and they moved to Warren, MB in 1943 where he continued farming and raised his family. Fred had a great love for sports and in recognition of his lifelong support and enjoyment of sports in the community, he was presented with the "Fan of the Year" award several years ago. During most summer nights you could find Fred at Interlake baseball games ranging from minor to Red-Boine games. He was very proud of his sons and grandsons involvement with hockey and baseball. Fred has been renting his land to the Warren Rec. Centre and proceeds have been going towards the building of a new arena. Fred was very much a family oriented man who derived a great deal of pleasure from spending time with the family from playing cards to hosting large family gatherings. Prayers will be held on Sunday, May 16 at 7:00 p.m. at MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, Stonewall. Funeral service will be held on Monday, May 17 at 2:00 p.m. at the MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, Stonewall. Interment will follow at Warren Cemetery. Rev. Bonita Garrett will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations in Freds memory may be made to the Warren Rec. Centre Building Fund. MacKenzie Funeral Home, Stonewall in care of arrangements.
