H.C. "BERT" HEARNDEN With great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, brother and friend, Bert, on Friday, May 14, 2004 at the Grace General Hospital at the age of 82 years. Bert is survived by daughter, Linda (Garry) sons, Brian (Nancy) and Gary; sisters, Evelyn and Gert of Mississauga, ON; niece Sandra; nephew John; grandchildren, Michael, Mark, Andrea, Jeff and Kyle; as well as numerous family and friends. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Lilly Karin, of 51 years of marriage; parents Bert and Cora; brother-in-law James Floras; and granddaughter Sarah Hearnden. Dad proudly served his country during the Second World War. After insurmountable odds, he was captured during the battle of Caen and spent 10 months as a prisoner of war in Germany. After the war Dad returned to Sinclair and Valentine in Toronto where he began his career as a 15 year old delivering printing ink on a bicycle. Early in his career, after various promotions he was transferred to Winnipeg where he met and married, Mom in 1950. Dad rose through the ranks until he retired as Vice President ending a 50 year career. During his life, Dad greatly enjoyed being a Shriner. A sports enthusiast, he played lacross, baseball, and curled in his youth. Dad was an excellent swimmer and later in his years he enjoyed bowling. As an outdoorsman, Dad loved fishing and hunting. He was a current member of Anavets #283. Dads funeral service will be Wednesday, May 19 at 1:00 p.m. in Sturgeon Creek United Church, 207 Thompson Dr. For those who wish, viewing will be one hour prior to the service. The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff on the 3rd Floor West at Grace General Hospital for their care and compassion during a difficult time. In lieu of flowers, donations in Berts memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Manitoba Division, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7.
