JOHN MICHAEL STEVENSON May 14, 1919 - May 13, 2004 It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our father, grandfather, great-grandfather, Michael Stevenson, on May 13, 2004, at the Peguis Senior Centre, one day before his 85th birthday. Michael will be lovingly remembered by sons, Wilfred (Mina), Lloyd (Cecilia), Allen, William and Earl (Alison) daughters, Patricia (Zacc) Moore, Marlene (Garry) Doerksen, Sharon (Howard) Stevenson-French; daughter-in-law Brenda Stevenson; grandchildren, Kimberly, Timothy, Lisa, Anthony, Derwin, Brittni, Terry, Zenon, Michael, Janice, Grant, Brett, Kiinnan and Aniike; five great-grandchildren, Nikosis, Minonah, Brayden, Casey and Madison. In addition Michael is remembered by sisters-in-law, Dora Stevenson and Bertha Sutherland; brother-in-law Percy Sutherland; numerous nieces and nephews. Mike was predeceased by his loving wife of 54 years, Annie, in 1997; his father John; mother Jessie; and stepfather Colin Pahkoo; brothers, Bethuel and Wilfred; sons, Michael, Douglas, Gerald and David; grandson Fraser. Dad was born at Peguis where he raised his family and also learned how to earn a hard days work, up into his 80s. Dad was a fisherman, guide, miner, farmer, trapper and root digger, but will be mostly remembered as a pulp cutter who immensely enjoyed his time in the bush. One of Dads main attributes was his principled work ethic. Community members always spoke highly of Dads stamina in his performance at work and his ability to provide for his family. Dad was not the type of person to extol the virtues of his industriousness - his hard work spoke for itself and he taught many by this example. Friends and family will remember his sense of humour and his ability to tease others. With that humour came a hearty laugh with which he once won a laughing contest in Fisher River. Dad also found great enjoyment from watching hockey and baseball, and during Treaty Days he also enjoyed watching the square dancers and the pow wow dancers. Many people will remember that Mike was a deeply spiritual person who shared words of comfort with families in their times of need, from Peguis, Fisher River and elsewhere. With that spirituality, Mike also took the opportunity to speak during Peguis Day celebrations every Fathers Day in St. Peters. Grateful thanks to Bev Cameron and her staff at the Peguis Senior Centre, for their care and compassion in making Dads final time here comfortable. The family would also like to thank the staff at the Percy E. Moore Hospital, and the Peguis Chief and Council. Wake services will be held on Saturday, May 15 and Sunday, May 16 at 8:00 p.m. at the Peguis Church, Peguis, MB. Funeral service will be held on Monday, May 17 at 1:30 p.m. at the Peguis Community Hall, Peguis, with Rev. Barry Bear and Rev. Wesley Barrett officiating. Interment will follow at the St. Peters Anglican Cemetery. Arrangements Entrusted to ANDERSON FAMILY FUNERAL HOME Ashern, MB 1-866-293-4951
