EARL KITCHENER VANN

Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEARL KITCHENER VANN MD FRCS (C) July 16, 1916 - May 12, 2004 Earl died suddenly but peacefully on May 12, 2004 at Victoria Hospital. He was born and raised in Indian Head, SK, where he received his early education. At the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon he received his BA pre med, from there he transferred to the University of Manitoba where he achieved the Gold Medal honours in Medicine in 1946. After a very busy family practice in St. James, he decided to pursue a specialty in Urology. This took him to Deer Lodge Hospital in Winnipeg, Edinborough, Scotland, Bradford, England and one year in Halifax. Earl returned to Winnipeg with the first written fellowship in Urology and established a very busy practice. He served as Head of the Department of Urology at the Victoria Hospital for many years and on numerous committees throughout his career. His retirement in 1989 was a rewarding experience which was filled with many pleasures such as travelling and golf. His sense of humour, quick wit and a willingness to help others endeared him to many people. Earl is survived by his loving wife Jocelyn of almost 19 years; sons, Murray, Mark and Monty. Grandchildren, Michele, Matthew, Kyla, and Amy; great-grandson Mason; and his sister Marge of Kelowna, BC. Earl was predeceased by his parents, Alfred and Ida Vann; sister Hazel; and brother Bill. Special thanks to Dr. Hayward, emergency staff and 5th floor staff at the Victoria Hospital. A special thank you to home care worker Maureen whom Earl greeted cheerfully when she arrived. Funeral service will be held at the Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. on Monday, May 17 at 10:00 a.m. Flowers gratefully declined. If desired, a donation to a charity of your choice in Earls memory.
