JO-ANN CAMPBELL Peacefully, after a lengthy illness with family at her side, Jo-Ann passed away on May 13, 2004 at the Teulon Memorial Hospital. She will be lovingly remembered by her family, Rod (Gayle), Boyd (Josie) and Cindy; her grandchildren Patrick (Teresa), Deryk, Heather, Reghan (Mark), Colin (Jennifer), Jeremy and Tara; great-grandchildren Sarah, Logan and Mackenzie; sister Cynthia (John) of Derbyshire England; brother-in-law Ray (Marie) sister-in-law Lina; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Hugh and infant son Kerry. Jo-Ann survived five heart attacks, two strokes, cancer and numerous other maladies, but could not survive the passing of her beloved husband of 58 years, Hugh, in March of this year. Jo-Ann was born in Derbyshire England on October 7, 1922, where she grew up in a working class neighbourhood until the start of the Second World War. It was during the war that Jo-Ann met a Canadian soldier whom she married on June 7, 1945. She took the ride of her life by ship and train, traveling to a new country and landing in the middle of the prairies where she spent the rest of her life in the Teulon and Gretna areas of Manitoba. Jo-Ann and Hugh spent most of their adult lives in the Gretna area where she loved to curl and work on numerous town committees. She was a strong community minded individual who was always the first to volunteer for any project, bake sale, or to speak her mind in public. Her home was always open to friends, extended families or all the hang-abouts that her children brought around. They spent many a wonderful day at their camp at Spruce Sands with their good friends Frankie and Boyd Johnston, along with all the children and grandchildren from both families. Although older than most of the other campers, they brought a vitality to their bay that is still talked about today. Upon their retirement, Jo-Ann and Hugh moved back to Hughs parental home in Teulon where they spent 20 years re-acquainting themselves with the community that Hugh grew up in. Although a difficult adjustment for Jo-Ann, it was made easier when her daughter Cindy and her family followed them to Teulon. In later years, as their health declined, Cindys support enabled them to remain in their home until their passing. After Hughs passing, the entire family knew that she would follow closely behind. Although she will be missed, we all know that she is now where she wanted to be, at Hughs side and able to once again hold her son who passed away in infancy. The family would like to send our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Graham. You were more than her physician, you understood her and that made her life better. Your support, guidance and compassion to the entire family are a rare commodity in todays world and will never be forgotten. To the kind and caring staff at the Hunter Memorial Hospital who have looked after Jo-Ann over the years, we cannot thank you enough. Services will be held in Teulon at St. Cyprians Anglican Church on Monday May 17, at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Windsor Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba or the Hunter Memorial Hospital in Teulon. MacKenzie Funeral Homes, Teulon in care of arrangements.
