ERNA CROWE (nee BARKOWSKY) It is with sadness and regret that we announce the passing of Erna. She is remembered by Bill Crowe, and her brothers, Lorenz and William, and her sisters, Ida and Frieda. She was predeceased by her parents, Johan and Ottilie, and by her brother Fred (Gertrude) and sister Emilie. Erna is remembered by her brother-in-law Art Schultz; nieces, Doreen, Angie, Mildred and Kimberley; as well as by nephews, Boyd, Barry, Raymond, Alvin and Ronald; and all of her friends and relatives in Steinbach. Erna was born in Steinbach and went to the Bristol School, which was close to the family homestead. She completed high school and worked at Paulins Candy as her first job. She then took nurses training and graduated as an LPN in 1951. She worked at the Municipal Hospitals caring for Iron Lung patients, and then went to the Misericordia Hospital on the surgery ward. She later changed to geriatric care and worked at Conquist Nursing Home and Central Park Lodge in River Heights. During this time, she bought a house, got married and moved to Selkirk where she worked at Selkirk and Middlechurch Homes. When Erna retired, she was able to devote her time to gardening and landscaping, as well as more time for her dog. Erna is remembered by friends in Selkirk, in Winnipeg, and others all the way to Vancouver. We would like to sincerely thank the staff in Selkirk General Hospital for their caring attitude and excellent nursing care, as well as Dr. B. Ryckman for his determined efforts on her behalf. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 25 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Pauls Lutheran Church, 465 Henry St., Steinbach, MB. A second funeral service will take place on Wednesday, May 26 at 10:00 a.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St. Interment will follow in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens.
