LUCILLE RITA CARRICO After spending the day with her family by her side, Lucille Carrico, aged 79 years, passed away on May 18, 2004 at the Selkirk General Hospital. She will be greatly missed by her husband of 56 years, Martin; her children, Brian (Luce) and Norma (Jeff) Mitchell; six grandchildren, Emma, Jessica and Sarah Mitchell, Theresa (Ryan) Zacharias, Jeanette (Kevin) Manser and Reid Carrico; three great-grandchildren, Todd, Gabriel and Jonathan Zacharias; sisters, Denise, Marie-Jeanne, Annette and Juliette; brothers, Prosper, Leo and Henrie; and numerous nieces and nephews. Lucille was predeceased by her parents, Andre and Therese Benjamin; three brothers, Clement, Gerard and Louis and one sister Solange. Lucille was born on April 12, 1925 in St. Norbert, MB. Upon completion of her schooling, she worked as a typist for Eatons in Winnipeg. During this time she met and married Martin, beginning their life-long journey together. In the early years of their marriage they had two children Brian and Norma. They lived in St. Norbert for six years where her husband was employed as manager of a large pure-bred holstein herd at the Trappist Monastery. In 1953, due to her husbands dairy employment, they moved to Grand Forks, ND and later Thief River Falls and Hallock, MN. The family returned to Canada in 1963, settling in Selkirk, where they lived ever since. In the mid-sixties she became a part-time secretary in her husbands dairy auction sale business and Herd Management Services. She worked many long hours typing and designing sale catalogues, while looking after her young family. During this time Martin had to spend the majority of his time away from home, working with clients throughout Manitoba. Lucilles ability as a homemaker was very apparent, making every home attractive and comfortable. She was creative in many areas; crafts, knitting, decorating, sewing and fashion. She made many of her own curtains and clothes for herself and children with great skill and flair. Set her next to a sewing machine, a keyboard, or give her a paint brush or hammer and nails, she put them all to good use. It was no surprise, that in her later years, she became quite proficient on the computer, sending e-mails and making personal cards to her family and friends. Her interests included crossword puzzles, reading, bowling, bridge and was an active member of the Womens Hospital Auxillary. She was very involved in her grandchildrens lives, watching and aiding them through the years in many ways. She was their cheerleader and they felt her love and caring, and returned it in kind. We will all miss her. The family wishes to thank the staff of Palliative Care and the Selkirk General Hospital for the kindness and care provided to Lucille. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, May 22 at 1:00 p.m. in the Notre Dame Roman Catholic Church, 269 Jemima St., Selkirk with Fr. Boguslaw Wardzinski officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lucilles memory to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg R3E 0V9. I am home in heaven, dear ones, All the pain and grief is over. All restless tossing has passed, I am now at peace forever, Safely home in heaven at last. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
