Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySARA BERTA PENNER Peacefully on May 18, 2004 Sara went to be with her Lord at the age of 92. She was born June 25, 1911 to Jakob and Margareta Nickel (nee Lohrenz) in the Ukraine. She married Abram Penner on January 17, 1931. They were blessed with two children. After six years of marriage, her husband Abram was arrested and was not heard from again. On October 31, 1943, Sara along with her two children left their home and went to live in Poland, until the war ended. After the war, they travelled to Berlin and sought refuge at the MCC Refugee Camp. In 1947, they immigrated to South America and settled in the Neuland Colony where they lived for ten years. In 1957, she and her daughter left for Canada and settled in Winnipeg. She was predeceased by her parents, siblings, husband Abram, son Willy, and daughter-in-law Herta. Sara leaves to mourn her daughter Hedi and son-in-law Peter; niece Tina; eight grandchildren and their families; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. The family wishes to thank the staff at Donwood Manor Personal Care Home for the love and care they gave to Sara. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 21, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. at the Springfield Heights Mennonite Church, with viewing prior to the service.
