STELLA ZAYAC Stephanie (Stella) Zayac born August 5, 1923, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2004, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was predeceased by her husband Steve in January, 1989. She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her sons, Julian (Florence) of White Rock, BC and Bob (Nicole) of Woodlands, MB; her sister Anne Rachel of Winnipeg; granddaughters, Angela (Will) of Tucson, AZ and Lisa of Woodlands, MB; one sister-in-law plus numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Mom was born in Eastern Europe and immigrated to Canada with her parents and sister Anne when she was 13 years old. The family farmed in the Fraserwood area and it was there that she met and married the love of her life, Steve. In 1942, Mom and Dad moved to Woodlands and continued farming. Mom spoke glowingly of the many friends she and Dad had cultivated over the years and of the integrity and warmth of everyone from Woodlands and the surrounding communities who touched them in a very positive way. She always had a huge garden and she shared the fruits of her labour with family and the many wonderful friends who stopped by. Mom symbolized the epitome of a Ukrainian Baba by her countless hours spent in the kitchen making perogies, cabbage rolls and soup. She spent her later retirement years at Lions Manor in Stonewall amidst many friends and neighbours she had come to know over the years. Her faith in Jehovah was unshakable and had always sustained her in the face of adversity. Mom was a woman of great strength, wisdom and humour - three of her unforgettable characteristics which stayed with her until her last days. The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff and caregivers at Lions Manor and to Dr. Kanji and the special nurses and medical staff at Stonewall Hospital for their loving care and attention. Cremation has taken place and there will be no funeral service at Moms request. Flowers are gratefully declined but those who wish may make a donation to a charity of ones choice.
