He was predeceased by his mother Olive; niece Chasity and close friend, Jeffrey. Leonard was born in The Pas, MB on September 22, 1949 and lived his early years in Cranberry Portage, MB. He travelled extensively throughout his life and eventually settled in Winnipeg. His cooking expertise came naturally to him and shared many a feast with friends and family. Leonard had unlimited talents working in bush camps, counselling in group homes, guiding and as a Native Court Worker. His life experiences and sharing his wisdom with his nieces, nephews and friends gave him the inspiration to create and write poetry. He took great pride in his culture and upbringing and was proud of his book of poems published in 2000, entitled "White Eagle Speaks: Reflections of Lives and Passing Thoughts". He had completed Volumes II and III and was excited about having them published. He loved making people laugh and enjoyed the company of friends. His family and friends will miss him. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held in Cranberry Portage, MB on Tuesday, May 25 at FCI gym, 2:00 p.m.
