Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryFREDRICK STEPHEN DODD 1923 - 2004 Fred Dodd, beloved husband of Patricia and son of the late Frederick and Rosa Dodd, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, May 25, 2004 surrounded by his family, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. In addition to his wife, he is also survived by his son Fred (Penny) Dodd; daughters, Deb (RG) Hemlow, Gail (Ron) Hickey, Sherry (Reg) George; sister Elsie (Art) Cannell; brother Jim (Sonja) Dodd; brothers-in-law, Bill (Helen) Southwood, Bill Gardiner and Bob Roy; grandchildren, Cory, Brian, Stacey, Kelly, Michael, Tammy, Stephen, Jenny-Lynn, Matthew and eight great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brothers, Ernie, Vernon and Ken, and his sister Peggy. Fred was born in Birtle, MB and served in the Second World War with the 12th Manitoba Dragoons 18th Armoured Car Regiment. He was a member of the Canadian Armed Forces for 35 years where he was RSM of 1PPCLI and Base Chief of CFB Winnipeg, serving with distinction until he retired in 1978. He retired as a Captain with the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires in 1991. Over the years, Fred was a very active member of the Masonic Temple Centennial Lodge #167 of the Grand Lodge of Alberta, Shriners Khartum Temple Patrol, LGen R.R. Crabbe Chapter CAVUNT, 12th Manitoba Dragoons Veterans Association, No. 4 Legion and ANAF #283. A devoted husband, a great father and a loving grandfather, Fred loved to fish and watch hockey and took great pride in his flowers and tomato plants. We would like to thank Dr. Guiness Maharaj and Mona for their compassion and care through the years. The family extends a heartfelt thank you to Freds niece, Karen Cannell, for the love and care she extended to Fred in his final hours. Services will be held on Saturday, May 29 at 2:00 p.m. at the Assiniboia Christian Centre, 3390 Portage Ave. In lieu of flowers, friends may make donations to the Shriners Childrens Burn Fund, in care of Khartum Shriners, 1155 Wilkes Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3P 1B9.
