Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEDITH MARION RAY (nee SHACKELL) Edith Marion Ray passed away peacefully on May 25, 2004 at the Victoria General Hospital. Born on December 13, 1920 in Moose Jaw, SK, she moved with her family to Winnipeg in March 1924. Edith attended Lord Selkirk and St. Johns Technical schools. She was predeceased by her mother and father, Elsie and Herbert Shackell; and her brother Leslie; and sister Eunice; and husband Ernie. Surviving are her sister Eileen Hurlburt; brother Fred Shackell (Joan) nieces, Margaret Hansen and Donna Price (Gordon) and nephew Douglas Shackell (Carole). Edith worked at the Winnipeg Tribune for 37 years. She volunteered at the gift shop of Victoria General Hospital for 21 years. She enjoyed golf, travel and crafts. Edith was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for 60 years and held many offices including Worthy Grand Matron of Manitoba in 1975/76. She had been a member of St. Johns Cathedral all her life. Cremation has taken place. The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date. Many thanks for the wonderful care of the staff at Victoria General Hospital and the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg.
