Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJAMES JOSEPH McARDLE With family and friends in his thoughts and prayers, Jim passed away on Friday, May 28, 2004, at the Grace Hospice, after a valiant battle with cancer. Forever in his love and support remains his son Kevin and his wife Darlene of Winnipeg; his daughter Sandra Mayer; grandson Brent Mayer; and granddaughter Karen Mayer of Ottawa; sister Catherine Wills in Long Island, NY and her family; sisters-in-law, Lorna and Dorothy; brothers-in-law, Orville and wife Louise and Gordon and wife Charlotte; as well as all the family and friends that were so close and important to Jim. Jim was predeceased by his parents, Mary and Peter; wife Ailie, of 49 years of marriage; and son-in-law Bruce Mayer. Jim was born on July 16, 1927 and was raised in the Westin area of Winnipeg. He worked for Diecast Products and later at Greensteel Industries as the General Manager until he retired. Jim was very active with St. Paul The Apostle Church as an usher and a counter until he became ill. Family and friends were an important part of Jims life. Ailie grew up in a large family of 11 children and there were lots of family gatherings and parties to attend. Jim enjoyed golfing and was a charter member of Breezy Bend golf course. Dad made a hole in one, and then a few years later made his second hole in one while playing golf at Breezy Bend. Mom and Dad loved to dance and party. Jim loved to host Grey Cup parties, more for the party than for the game. St. Patricks Day was always an important date, even for the non-Irish that would come to celebrate the day. There was always lots of famous Jameson Irish coffee to go around for everyone. Even though Dad did not ski, he would drive hours to take us skiing and sometimes through the worst driving conditions, just to sit in the chalet and wait to drive us back home after a long day of skiing. He enjoyed the annual spring and fall fishing trips with the guys when Kevin was younger. There are so many moments with Dad that he will be remembered for. Jim also enjoyed taking the family on trips around North America and to Ireland. Dads wish was to visit Ireland one more time with the family after the passing of his wife. Unfortunately, the doctors found that he had cancer and after a long fight it was determined that he would not be able to see the green isle of Ireland one more time. In every time of struggle, There is peace in quiet prayer, For the Lord is always waiting To uplift us from despair. Does not matter, place or moment- He will always hear the prayers That call out to Him, in earnest, For His grace of love and care. With a tender touch of mercy, He will brush away our tears And becalm the swelling passions That engulf a heart in fears For He is the Master Healer Of all wounds and griefs we bear And our comforter and Saviour In the peace of quiet prayer. Michael Dubina Memorial mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 8 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Paul The Apostle Roman Catholic Church, 2400 Portage Ave. with Rev. Msgr. Ward Jamieson presiding. Interment will follow in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 4000 Portage Ave. Our family wishes to express deep heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to the doctors and staff at the Grace Hospital, Riverview Health Centre, the Grace Hospice and all those who came to know Dad. Special thanks to Dr. Pat Harris and the staff at the Grace Hospital Oncology Department for their help and support, as well as Mark Shepard and Chris Carlyle from the Palliative Care Program. Our family would like to thank Msgr. Maurice Comeault from Blessed John XXIII Parish for his visit with Dad in his final hours; Msgr. Ward Jamieson from St. Paul The Apostle; as well as Wojciks Funeral Chapel and those who have been so supportive during this difficult time. Those wishing to make donations in Dads memory may do so to the Grace Hospice, 260 Booth Dr., Winnipeg, MB R3J 3R5 or to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E OV9. "Dad you will be sadly missed. Thank you for your love, teaching and guidance over the years. You will always be in our hearts til we meet again. We will always love you Dad".
