Date of Passing: May 21, 2004
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJUNE ESTELLE SUMTER We celebrate the life of June Estelle Sumter who left us all too soon on May 21, 2004. A loving mother of two adoring sons and their families, June will be forever remembered by sons, Douglas Chase (Kathy Park) and Toby Chase (Janet Walker) and her grandsons, Douglas Jr., Kelly and Davis. She was always there for us. Her perseverance, wisdom and understanding will inspire us always. Predeceased by her "dearest" father Walter; and brothers, Douglas and Leslie; June was daughter of Kathleen and sister to Walter Jr. (Lisa Bjornason) and Addena (Irvin Sumter-Frietag) special aunt to April, Tara, Tasha, Miles, Clifford; and great-aunt to little Cameron, Elizabeth and newborn Gabriel who arrived within hours of her passing. June was a generous companion and friend who will be especially missed by the many nephews, nieces and grown up children who depended on her compassion and support. Childhood friends Alice, Dolly and Emerald held a special place in her heart. Born in Truro, NS, June lived in Montreal, Winnipeg, Vancouver and Duncan, Vancouver Island. Her travels took her to Egypt, Cuba, Copenhagen, Berlin, Singapore, New York, and Austin Lake among other destinations. She thrived in her retail work with Eatons in Winnipeg and was a consummate fashion consultant with a passion for good food and great cooking. She could be counted on to add style and season to every occasion. A giving spirit, June enjoyed all forms of meditation and conversation. Her never ending reservoir of strength was huge comfort to all who knew her. We love you "mutter" and you will be with us always. A great soul serves everyone all the time A great soul never dies It brings us together again and again. - Maya Angelou The family is grateful to the nursing staff of St. Pauls Hospital (Vancouver) and 2-South, Cowichan District Hospital (Duncan, BC) and to Drs. Justine Stewart, Ann Thompson and Willie Pewarchuk and we offer our special appreciation to Junes "personal" nurse Kathy Park. If friends so wish, contributions may be made to the Cowichan Valley Hospice Society in Duncan or the Canadian Cancer Society.
