Date of Passing: May 28, 2004
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDOLLY TOBY RICE It is with great sadness that I, Bonnie, her only child, announce the passing of my mother, Dolly Toby Rice, at home on Friday, May 28, 2004. Her strength gave out after a 10 week battle with complications from a fall. Prior to that, she was managing her household and enjoying life. My mother loved a good laugh, good mysteries, good gossip and lively music - especially "Hello Dolly". She really enjoyed doing the Free Press Jumble puzzles and was so good at solving them. As a lifelong Winnipegger, she was very interested in what was happening around town. She was also very up-to-date with all matters dealing with Canadian and world affairs. Dolly was predeceased by her parents, Zelig and Ida Garber and her husband, Max. She was the last of her immediate family. Sisters, Anne Ross and Sadie and Annes husband, Charlie and her brothers, Eddie and Oscar and their wives, Janet and Hilda, all predeceased my mother. My mother worked hard over her lifetime - with her first real position at Christie Biscuits Co. during the Depression, to her last position with the Manitoba Health Services Commission. She made many good friends over the years. My mother, Dolly, was beautiful both outwardly and within. She lived her life with independence, integrity, kindness and decency. Just a sweet, lovely lady. Pallbearers were her nephews, Dr. Les Garber and Ian Garber; great nephew, Sheldon Zamick and cousins, Dr. Bailey Rayter, Ian Rayter and Ronnie Koffman. Special thanks to Dr. Les Garber for all his help and support. Thanks also to Alixe Komenda, Head of Home Care Services, Health Sciences Centre. If so desired, donations can be made to a charity of your choice. "Surely goodness and mercy followed her all the days of her life."
