Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJAMES CRAIG SHANKS It is with deepest sadness that we announce the sudden passing of James Craig Shanks at his summer home at Lakeshore Heights on Friday, May 28, 2004 at the age of 77. Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Susie; daughters, Cathy Hultman (Pat), Colleen Neal (Bruce) and Corey MacKinnon (John) grandchildren, James, Jocelyn, Jackie, Robert, Lindsay, Reave and Connor; sisters, Grace Strom and Alison Huber (David) sister-in-law Mary McGee; and many nieces and nephews. Jim was predeceased by his parents, James and Margaret Shanks; father and mother-in-law James and Alice McGee; sister Bess Shanks; sister-in-law Molly Barr, and brothers-in-law, Tony McGee and Erling Strom. Jim was born and educated in Winnipeg. During the Second World War, Jim served in the Canadian Army. Jim joined the Winnipeg Police Department, where he served as a Constable for 30 years. During his latter years with the Department he was a member of the Winnipeg Police Mens Choir. Shortly after his retirement, Jim and Susie moved from their East Kildonan home to their summer cottage at Lakeshore Heights and spent their winters in Mesa, AZ. Jim enjoyed sports, especially baseball. In his youth, he played with several teams, including the Rosedales and the Elmwood Giants in the ManDak League. In later years, he enjoyed armchair coaching while watching hockey and baseball on T.V. Jim was a player, a coach and an enthusiastic fan of his athletic children and grandchildren, alike. Viewing will be held at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 3. A celebration of Jims life will be held on Friday, June 4 at 2:30 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jims memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 200-6 Donald St., R3L 0K6. He was a man, take him for all in all, I shall not look upon his like again. We will love you forever.
