SILVIO SBOTO Silvio Sboto passed away in Brandon Regional Hospital on May 29, 2004. Silvio was born in Lima, Peru, South America. He graduated from Markham High School in 1956. He attended Dalhousie University in Halifax, where he met his wife Penny. Silvio had four passions in his life, his family, his Judo, his photography and his business. Silvio is survived by his wife Pearl (Penny) one sister Vita (Carlos) Silva Santisteban; son Richard (Uta) of Winnipeg and daughter Karen (Buddy) and two very special grandchildren, Jindar and Silvio. He also leaves to mourn many nieces and nephews. At the time of his death Silvio was chair of the National Coaching Certification Program of Judo Canada. He started Judo in the late fifties earning his brown belt in Halifax in 1958. He earned his Shodan in 1960 and Nidan in 1962, both in Lima where he was head of the black belt association for many years. For over 27 years he was an active teacher in various Judo clubs around the province and International Peace Gardens. He had a long time love for the art of the sport, and shared it with all of his students. He volunteered countless hours and weekends to teach the NCCP program in Manitoba. At the time of his death he held 5th degree black belt and level 4 National Coaching Certification. Silvio spent his life taking photographs and was able to turn this hobby into a successful advertising business. He could be found during seeding and harvest season tramping about countless fields hauling his camera equipment trying to get the perfect shot which in our opinion he did. Silvio leaves behind many colleagues in the media industry and clients who where his very close friends and with whom he shared many happy times and good food. He never complained about having to go into work. Summers were spent canoeing, camping and fishing with the family in the great outdoors. Fall brought hunting with his buddies. He loved getting out on the land even if his hunts were not always successful. Many people from near and far shared our home and hospitality, this was his greatest joy. Donations in Silvios memory can be send to JudoKan, 34 Wakomma Dr., Brandon, R7B 3A5. A celebration of Silvios life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on June 12 at the Evans Theatre, in Brandon University.
