CECILE MARIE WEST It is with great sadness, that we announce the passing of Cecile West on Sunday, May 30, 2004 at the Holy Family Nursing Home. Cecile is survived by her devoted husband of nearly 60 years, Joseph; daughters, Carol (Gary), Diane (Marcien) grandchildren, Mark (Kate) and Kristen Eliasson. Also left to mourn, many nieces, nephews, cousins, brother and sisters-in-law. Cecile was predeceased by her parents, John and Helen Tomanocy, brother Alex, and sister, Julie of Thunder Bay. Cecile was born in Thunder Bay, ON on January 13, 1922, where she resided until she met the love of her life, her man " Joey ". They married in 1944 and began their wonderful life together in Winnipeg, raising two daughters and setting an example of their undeniable devotion to each other. It was evident to all who knew them. Over the years, they travelled the world.... England, Germany (Cruising the Rhine), Spain, Majorca, Hawaii, the islands of the Caribbean, Arizona, Palm Springs, New England, Marthas Vineyard and the white sands of Sarasota, Siesta key. They had the Wanderlust, always together. Cecile was a caring and nurturing mother to both of her girls, instilling in them strength of character and a respect for others. She will also be remembered for her quick wit, sense of humour, beauty and grace. Oh, how we would laugh. Ceciles green thumb, alongside with Joseph was legendary, growing the most wonderfully diverse vegetable garden, only to be surpassed by her innovative culinary skills. She knew how to cook. In early 2001, Cecile was diagnosed with Alzheimers disease and fought the battle with her family by her side, every step of the way. Many thanks to the wonderful staff at the Holy Family Nursing Home, homecare workers, Fran and Cheryl, Drs. Murray Cameron and Catherine Moltzan for their most excellent care over the years. Prayers will be held Wednesday June 2, 2004 at 8:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday June 3, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Anthonys of Padua Roman Catholic Church, 250 Burrin Ave. with Rev. Msgr. Michael L. Moore officiating. Interment will follow in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be George West, David West, Darryl Cooper, Neil McDermot, sons-in-law, Gary and Marcien.
