Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRAYMOND JAMES WILLIAMS Peacefully, on Saturday, May 29, 2004, at the Portage District General Hospital, surrounded by his family, Raymond James Williams, of Austin, MB, widower of the late Betty Jean Williams passed away at the age of 83 years. Funeral service will be held in the Austin United Church on Wednesday, June 2 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Peggy Reid officiating. Interment will follow in the family plot at Austin Cemetery. Raymond was born on March 17, 1921, son of Elizabeth and Osbourne Williams at Pine Creek, MB. Raymond was raised and received his education in the Pine Creek District. On October 20, 1951, he married Betty Johnston. They continued for farm in the Pine Creek District until 1956, when they moved to Austin to raise their family. Raymond worked at Shilo, MB, where he worked as a cook, then joined the C.P.R. where he worked for 15 years before joining the Campbell Soup Company in Portage, where he worked there for 20 years before retiring. Raymond was a great gardener and always had one of the nicest gardens around which everybody admired. He was always willing to help people in need. He loved to work on his and his familys vehicles, and he also loved woodworking. Raymond also volunteered his services with the Austin Cemetery Committee. "Pop" as he was called by all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, loved to watch his children and then his grandchildren playing hockey, baseball, soccer and growing up. Predeceased by his parents; his wife Betty in 1999; two sisters, Betty and Louila. He leaves to mourn his passing, his son Gordon (Thelma) their children, Robert (of Austin), Tammy, Cheryl of Thunder Bay, ON; daughter Donna (Rodney) of Portage their children, Tanya, her son Markus, Ryan (Becky) their son Carter, and Muggy; son Harvey (Rolande) of Portage and their son A.J.; son David (Lisa) of Winnipeg and their sons, Jeffrey and Douglas. Also surviving are his brothers, Lionel (Nan) Williams of Delta, BC, Sam (Ada) Williams of Carberry; his sisters, Blanche Switzer of Portage and Agnes Carrothers also of Portage; and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the funeral home for visitation on Tuesday, June 1 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Should friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Portage District Hospital Foundation, to the Austin Cemetery Fund, or the Central Plains Cancer Care Services.
