Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDERBY WHITLEY On June 1, 2004 with his family at his side, Derby Whitley, aged 89 years, of Winnipeg, passed away peacefully, after a lengthy illness at the Seven Oaks Hospital. He leaves to mourn his passing, son Wayne; daughter Marlene Whitley-Ironstand of Winnipeg; a sister Ruth in the United States; sister-in-law Alice Fiddler; cousins, Alice Stevenson of Selkirk, Bertha Michell of Winnipeg, Harry Whitley of Oregon and numerous nieces and nephews. Derby was predeceased by his wife, Christina in 1990; brothers, George and Charlie and a sister Ethel. Derby was born in St. Peters, MB on August 30, 1914 and attended residential school in Portage. He worked hard all his life, commercial fishing up north, seven years at the Manitoba Rolling Mills in Selkirk, 10 years for B.A.C.M. Construction in Gillam and seven years at the Winnipeg Airport. Derby served overseas during the Second World War, including England, Italy and Holland and earned several medals. Friends and relatives may call for viewing on Thursday (tonight) at 7:00 p.m. at the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk. Funeral service will be held on Friday, June 4 at 2:00 p.m. also in the chapel with interment to follow in the St. Peters Cemetery.
