Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHELEN MARGARET SMITH (nee LINKLATER) With deep sorrow the family announces that our beautiful mother passed away peacefully with her daughter Arlene and her husband Dick by her side, on Monday, May 31, 2004 in Morris Hospital. She was predeceased by her husband Murray (1960) her parents John and Katherine Linklater; sisters, Mamie Sowden and Esther Blackburn; and brother Tom Linklater. Mom is survived by her sons, Murray (Bonnie), Glen, Lawrie (Tracey) daughter Arlene (Dick) grandchildren Arlene (Bill), Lloyd, Richard (Lucette) and Steven (Susie), Lindsay and Owen ("Little Man"), and several great-grandchildren, numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and other family. Mom was born and raised in Cloverdale, MB attending school on her horse named "Kid". She moved to Winnipeg to finish high school and graduate. She met and married Murray Smith and they took up residence in Clandeboye. When dad was overseas in the Second World War, mom resided in Winnipeg. Upon his return they resided in Clandeboye and raised their family. After dads passing, mom continued raising her children, and in 1975 she moved to Selkirk where she worked at the McLeods Store until its closing. She resided in Selkirk until 1998 at which time she moved to Parkside Villa in Morris to be closer to her daughter. In August, 2002 mom became a resident of the Red River Valley Lodge where she resided until Sunday, May 30. Mom was always very supportive and good to her children. She enjoyed her several trips to the West Coast to visit her sons at which times she went camping, visited family and even attended Expo in 1986. She also took great pleasure in her many, many drives in the country, dances, old time music, and functions she attended with her daughter Arlene and son-in-law Dick Graham. Mom had such strong character in the face of health problems, never losing her sense of humour, never complaining and never giving up. She loved family visiting, homemade bread, nature, birds, sewing, particularly quilting, for which she won first prize in the Selkirk Fair in the open class and the seniors class. Mom worked very hard in her life. Rest peacefully now, "my best girlfriend." we will miss you so much. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, June 4, 2004 at 11:30 a.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk, with Pastor Stan Richards officiating. Viewing will be held one hour prior to service time.
