AUSTIN KNIGHT It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Austin Knight on June 1, 2004 at the age of 81 years. Austin is survived by his wife of 58 years, Yvonne (nee Christie) children, Sharon (Bruce) Gunn of Winnipeg, Gerry (Heather) of Calgary and Rick (Sharon) of Victoria; grandchildren, Jody, Kathleen, Megan, Kayla and Logan. He is also survived by his brother Reg (Naomi) nephew and niece, David and Ruth. Austin was born in Niagara Falls, ON, January 20, 1923 and grew up in Toronto and Huntsville. After enlisting in the RCAF in 1942, he was stationed in various places in Canada, including Winnipeg where he met and fell in love with Yvonne and was married, August 3, 1945. They moved to Transcona in 1960 and raised their family there, spending their summers at Hillside Beach where they built their cottage. Austin was employed with McDonald Dure and CN Rail before finding employment with Canada Packers for 32 years, becoming a member of the Quarter Century Club. He was an active member of the Valour Road Legion, serving on the board of the Madison Memorial Lodge. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 5 at 10:00 a.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Austins memory to The Alzheimer Society or the Canadian Cancer Society. The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff and volunteers at Park Manor Personal Care Home (2nd Floor and Adult Day Program).
