KENNETH HAROLD CHARLESWORTH 1926 - 2004 Peacefully, on June 3, 2004 at Victoria General Hospital, Ken Charlesworth, beloved husband of Marie Charlesworth (nee Bird) passed away at the age of 78. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 57 years, Marie and sons, Ron (Heather), Doug (Eleanor), Gord (Joanne), Dave (Sybil) and Rob (Deb) grandchildren, Matthew, Jason, Ashley, Dana, Coreen (Darren), Raewyn, Luke, Adam, Brynn and Jamieson; great-grandchildren, Karissa and Megan; brother Cliff (Marion) and sister Lyn Yauk (Irv). Ken attended Kelvin High School in Winnipeg, graduated from the University of Manitoba with a B.Sc. and went to work as a chemist at Canada Packers. He returned to the University of Manitoba in 1957 to earn his teaching certification, and later that year moved with his family to Manitou, MB to teach in, and later become principal of Manitou High School (now Nellie McClung Collegiate). The family returned to Winnipeg in 1965 when Ken accepted a position at Vincent Massey Collegiate. Shortly afterward, he moved to the Curriculum Branch of the Department of Education, where he held a number of senior positions, and continued his part time studies at University of Manitoba, eventually earning a Masters Degree in Education. He remained at the Department of Education until his retirement in 1988. Ken enjoyed basketball and took full advantage of his height, eventually winning a City Championship while playing senior ball. He developed a passion for golf and sailing, enjoying many days on the course with Marie at the Wildwood Club, and many more at the cottage at Winnipeg Beach, treasuring his time on the boat with his sons. He also loved to travel, taking vacations around the world, made better when combined with an exotic golf course. Many thanks to Dr. Tomy and the staff at the Victoria General Hospital, especially Edith, Joyce and Trevor and the kind souls in the ICU. Also thanks to Dr. Hobson for making a difficult journey a little easier. A service in Kens memory will be held at St. Pauls Anglican Church, 830 North Dr., Monday, June 7 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Kens name to The Parkinson Society of Canada, 4211 Yonge Street, Suite 316, Toronto, ON M2P 2A9 or a charity of your choice.
