EFFIE LOUISE MOFFAT On June 6, 2004, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Effie Louise Moffat passed away peacefully with family by her side at Victoria Hospital. Over the past 92 years, Effie has enriched the lives of her two sons, Dr. Murray Moffat (Linda) and Terry Moffat; her grandchildren, Grant Moffat (Diana) and Karen van Kampen (Dimitri) and her great-grandchildren, Dylan and Aidan Moffat. Effie was born in Erickson, MB on May 19, 1912 and was predeceased by her husband, Preston; her parents, Carl and Ebba Carlson; her sister, Ethel and her brother, Clifford. Effie lived on the family farm until she was married on June 30, 1934. Effie was an active member of her community. She belonged to the United Churches in Clanwilliam, Portage la Prairie, The Pas and Winnipeg, which she called home for almost 50 years. Effie enjoyed being a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. On September 18, 1951, Effie joined its Opasquai Chapter 24 in The Pas. In 1971, she was treasurer for the Friendship Chapter in Charleswood and was secretary from 1975 to 1989, receiving the Long Service Award in 2001. In 1981 to 1982, Effie was Eastern Star Worthy Matron. Effie enjoyed her years working in the accounting department of The Hudson Bay Company, and was honoured several times as Employee of the Month. In the fall of 1971, Effie and her husband ventured to Australia. For two years, they lived in Melbourne, where Preston taught high school science. They were avid travellers, making their way to Tasmania, Norway, Sweden, Japan, the United Kingdom, Hawaii and across the United States and Canada, where they visited family. A memorial service was held at Westworth Church, Grosvenor and Lanark on Thursday, June 10 at 1:00 p.m. Arrangements were entrusted to Chapel Lawn Funeral Home. Flowers are gratefully declined, those wishing to do so may make an in memoriam contribution to a worthy charity.
