Calvert fought a lengthy and courageous battle against cancer with the strong and unwavering support of his beloved wife Yvonne. Funeral service will be held at St. Marys la Prairie Anglican Church, Portage la Prairie, MB on Saturday, June 12 at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Norman Collier officiating. The service will terminate at the church followed by cremation. Calvert was born in Vancouver on January 26, 1958, and moved with his family to Portage la Prairie in 1962. He was always an excellent student; receiving in his senior year at Portage Collegiate Institute several awards, including the Governor Generals Medal and acting as class valedictorian. Calvert was a strong sportsman through his school years, particularly enjoying football and hockey at the Junior "B" level. In 1976 he commenced studies at Dalhousie University, graduating in 1981 with a Bachelors degree in Law. After four years of law practice with Davis and Co. in Vancouver, Calvert pursued a Masters in Law at Cambridge University in England. While at Cambridge he met Yvonne, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eric Lewis of Gloucestershire. Calvert and Yvonne married in England in July of 1990. Calvert and Yvonne have been citizens of the world, living and working in Tokyo, London and most recently in Singapore with Cal as a partner in the law firm of Shearman and Sterling. Calvert had many interests including travel, sports activities, reading and astronomy, but above all he was a devoted and doting father to his and Yvonnes four beautiful children, Alexandra, Charles, Alice and James. There was nothing he loved more than to be playing with his children. Calvert is survived by his wife Yvonne; children, Alexandra, Charles, Alice and James; as well as his parents, Virginia and Clive; two brothers, Drew and Ross; and a sister Leigh.
