GENEVIEVE ANEXCEE HAITSMA (nee POPP) December 8, 1941 - June 7, 2004 On June 7, 2004, peacefully, with family and friends at her side, Genevieve departed St. Boniface General Hospital to be with her Lord and Saviour after a short courageous fight with breast cancer, at the age of 62 years. She leaves to mourn, her loving husband, John; her only son, Daniel; brothers, Dan (Yvonne) of Edmonton, Miles (Diana) of Pincher Creek, Peter (Salonge) of Flin Flon; sisters, Alexandria (Zana) Hayworth of Quesnel, Eugenia Letteney and Emelia Russell of Kelowna, sister-in-law Rose Groome of Windsor, ON, Edie Popp of Kelowna, Teresa Pinsonneault of Coquitlam; and numerous nieces and nephews across Canada and the U.S.A. She was predeceased by her parents, Rachel and Dan Popp; brothers, Steve of Windsor, John of Kelowna, Dode of Kelowna; and sister Emma Knudson and brother-in-law Bernard Knudson of Flin Flon; and brother-in-law William Russell of Hudson Bay, SK. Genevieve was born on the homestead at Smoky Ridge, SK and was educated at Bluefield School, High Schooled in Hudson Bay and took Teachers College at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon. She was many things to many people during her short life and she excelled at all of them. She was daughter, sister, teacher, wife, homemaker, gardener, civil servant, mother, hobbyist (stained glass and others), farmer, and lastly a Registered Nurse, where she really found her calling. She will be sorely missed by all her dear friends across the country. The family extend their sincere thanks to the Oncology staff, Emergency staff, 3rd, 4th, and 5th floor Nursing staff, and lastly to the wonderful staff at the Palliative Care Unit, all at the St. Boniface General Hospital, for their care and professionalism while Genevieve was a patient in their respective areas at various times. We also wish to thank Genevieves coworkers at the Riverview Health Centre, mainly the Behavioural Management Unit and the Palliative Care Unit where she was still working until the end of 2003, for their support and prayers during her illness. A special "Thank You" to the Pastoral Care Chaplains at St. Boniface for all the in depth talks with us all and in particular, Fr. Tim who was there at the end. Thank you all so much! In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Genevieves memory to Cancer Care Manitoba or St. Mary Magdalene Anglican Church Memorial Fund or the Charity of ones choice. A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 11 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Magdalene Anglican Church, 3 St. Vital Rd.
