Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARGARET McLAREN October 16, 1910 - June 5, 2004 Margaret McLaren, beloved mother of Donna Riddell and Shirley Mabon, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 5, 2004 at Baldur Manor, Baldur, MB. Margaret was born on the family farm near Baldur, on October 16, 1910. She was predeceased by her parents George and Jemima (Watson) Morrison and siblings, George, Isabelle (Spring), Mac, Janet (Tosh), Tom, John and Edwin. Margaret attended Tiger Hills School west of Baldur and had many happy memories of her school days there. She enjoyed the competitiveness of field day competitions and that never left her. She competed in races and curling competitions. She was employed at the Ninette Sanatorium during the 1930s. It was there she met many friends with whom she kept in touch throughout her lifetime. Margaret married Alex McLaren on June 2, 1939 at Ninga, MB and began their married life on the farm SW30-3-14 north of Neelin, MB. Margaret and Alex retired to Baldur in 1966. They enjoyed their retirement and especially the many trips they took with their friends. They particularly enjoyed their 1972 trip to Scotland, the home of their ancestry. Margaret cherished her family and it was important to her to keep in touch with them all. She was a member and supporter of the Neelin Curling Club, Neelin and Baldur United Churches and the U.C.W. Margaret remained in her home in Baldur until the summer of 2000 when she moved to a suite in Argyle Lodge. She was a resident of Baldur Manor since January 2003 until the time of her passing. Margaret was predeceased by her husband Alex, of 50 years, on March 2, 1990 and her son-in-law Ross Mabon on November 3, 1993. She leaves to mourn her passing her daughters, Donna (Gord) Riddell of Winnipeg and Shirley Mabon of Cartwright, MB. She will be fondly remembered by her grandchildren, Norva Riddell (Robert Duncan) of Winnipeg, Myles Riddell (Nicole Betournay) and Eva and Alec of Winnipeg, Mark (Kristy) Mabon and Jarrett and Jillian of Thompson, MB, Kevin (Shannon) Mabon and Jessica and Shelby of Killarney, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Service to celebrate Margarets life will be held in Baldur United Church on Thursday, June 10 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be in Neelin Cemetery prior to the service. The service will be officiated by Rev. Cole Grambo. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Baldur United Church, Baldur Manor or a charity of your choice.
