MARGARET STEVENS (nee VERGONET) 1929 - 2004 Unexpectedly, Margaret Stevens passed away on June 6, 2004 at Seven Oaks Hospital. She is survived by her husband Theodore (Ted), of 44 years; and her children and their spouses, Tricia and Rob Carver, Doug Stevens and Connie Stallard, Scott Stevens and Lorraine Dupont and Chris Stevens and Brian Marin. Grandchildren are Madison, twins, Dana and Jack Carver and Courtney, twins, Samuel and Thomas and Jordan Stevens. She is also survived by her sisters, Anne, Trudy, Corry, Frances and Joan; and several nieces and nephews. Marg was born in Winnipeg and grew up on Noble Avenue. She loved to travel, and worked in England and Holland before she met Ted and they settled in Winnipeg. Marg became a homemaker when their first child, Tricia, was born, and after their family grew to four children became the office manager of Teds new business, Stevens Surveys. Marg and Ted ran Stevens Surveys from 1970 until 2000, when their son, Doug, took over the family business. Marg loved to help people, from piling 13 kids into a car when they needed rides home from school, to coaching baseball and being a Girl Guide leader for her kids. Chris learned to ride horses at an early age, there were many weekends spent at horse shows with Marg manning the canteen and cooking hotdogs by the hundreds. Marg was a dedicated volunteer for Manitoba Sports Federation. Marg and Ted waited a longtime for grandchildren, but once they finally arrived, she enjoyed them immensely, as they did her. Gram, as Tricias kids called her, would do anything they asked her to, whether it was playing cards or a board game, playing soccer or pushing their tricycles. Marg was a huge help to Tricia when her twins, Jack and Dana were born. Nanoo, as Courtney called her when she was small, also loved spending time with her. Margs recent health issues never got in the way of her enjoying her family; she never complained as she learned to adapt. Marg celebrated her 75th birthday in March of 2004 with her family and friends. She will be sadly missed. A memorial service will be held for family and friends of the family at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 14 at Klassen Funeral Chapel, 1897 Henderson Hwy. Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association. KLASSEN Funeral Chapel 1897 Henderson - North of McIvor - 338-0331
